Dheeraj was excited about the opportunity to share his views with the location head. A few minutes back, Prakash called Dheeraj to inform about the meeting with Vinod. Vinod agreed to meet them the next day at 11:00 AM. The thought of ‘Best Employee’ and Sanjay came to Dheeraj’s mind. He was wondering how Sanjay was handling the documentation efforts. It was three days ago he had the discussion with John. He decided to check with John. He looked at his watch and walked towards the canteen to catch John there.

Luckily for him, he found John & Nasreen having tea in the canteen. He picked up a cup of tea and joined them. Both John & Nasreen were happy to see Dheeraj joining them. After exchange of pleasantries, Dheeraj asked John about the documentation efforts.

“We made good progress. It was good that you have pointed that out” said John. “It took considerable effort to make Sanjay agree for this. He could only agree when I & Nasreen sat with him to go through the entire process. Nasreen prepared the documentation while he was explaining the process.”

“Good. Did you find any opportunities for improvement?” asked Dheeraj.

“Yes, we did a review and found a few steps that can be carried out simultaneously. There are a few things each developer has to take care so that the entire Build & Release process can be reduced to one day!” explained Nasreeen.

“We are still in the process of getting all the steps right. I am sure we can automate certain steps to reduce the entire time to a few hours,” said John confidently.

“Excellent! Way to go! Good job guys!” commented Dheeraj.

“By the way, the entire team knows about this documentation effort. A couple of them are interested in taking up this work. I think, once we verify and get all the steps right, anyone from the team can complete this work,” said John proudly. He turned towards Nasreen and asked, “What do you say Nasreen?”.

Nasreen nodded affirmatively and said, “Sanjay appeared hurt. All this while, he did not allow anyone to look at what he was doing. He is the only one with this knowledge. Now he feels that he has lost the power of this exclusive knowledge.”

“He deserves credit for having gained this knowledge. We should acknowledge that” said Dheeraj. Addressing John, Dheeraj continued, “You should find out if he has any job insecurity feelings. Many a time, I have seen insecure people not willing to share the knowledge. As a leader, it is our responsibility to dispel that fear of job insecurity. We should treat every team member with equal respect irrespective of their caliber. Once we have accepted a person as a team member, we should try to get the best out of him and provide opportunities for his growth. It is very important to encourage people to share and contribute to the team’s development.”

“But sir!” said Nasreen hesitantly. “To get recognition from the management, many people try to outdo others just like we used to do in schools.
